Gradara
The stronghold of Gradara stands on a hill on the border between Romagna and Marche regions in strategic and dominant position. Is 25 km from Rimini, 13 km from Pesaro, 3 km frm the Adriatic state road.
The fortress rooms recall the splendor of powerful families that have ruled here: Malatesta, Sforza and Della Rovere.
After Malatesta and the tragedy of Paolo and Francesca, sung by Dante in one of the most famous passages of the "Divina Commedia", consumed here in September 1289, came the Sforza (including Lucrezia Borgia, the second wife of John Sforza).
A brief period of domination of the brother of Lucrezia, Cesare Borgia, preceded the Della Rovere and the Pope's State of the Church vanished into Italy in second half of eighteenth century.
